Ohio Teen FAQs
You must be at least 15 ½ years old to begin the driver education process.
You must hold your Temporary Instruction Permit (TIPIC) for at least 6 months before being eligible to take the road test.
Ohio requires 24 hours of classroom instruction for teen drivers, covering traffic laws, road signs, and safe driving practices.
You need to have held your TIPIC for at least 6 months, completed 50 hours of supervised driving (including 10 hours at night), and pass a driving skills test.
A Probationary Driver’s License limits you to one non-family passenger under 21 (unless a parent/guardian is present) and restricts driving between midnight and 6 a.m. unless you’re going to/from work.
